Meta is a social media and technology company founded in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg and his college roommates, Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, and Dustin Moskovitz. The company began as a social networking site for Harvard students, but quickly expanded to other colleges and universities. In 2006, Facebook by Meta was opened to the general public and rapidly grew in popularity, eventually becoming one of the largest social media platforms in the world. The company's mission is to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together. In addition to its social networking platform, Meta also operates Instagram, WhatsApp, and Oculus VR.
