Unusual Behaviors Research & Development
Seattle, WA, United States
As a Software Engineer (Data Science) at ExtraHop Networks in Seattle, WA, I was involved in designing and developing high-throughput data pipelines to transport and load semi-structured data across multiple globally distributed data centers. I had experience creating enriched data sets to deliver insights to internal and external stakeholders.

One of my key contributions at ExtraHop was the development of numerous Data Science applications for both research and production use. I used modern AWS serverless technologies and architectures to create these applications, and applied modern Data Science algorithms and methodologies to Big Data to extract valuable insights for our customers.
I also formalized, engineered, and managed the core internal ETL pipeline for over two years. This pipeline delivered value to internal teams across the business, and I was able to scale it to handle an order of magnitude increase in data volume while simultaneously increasing its functionality. This was due to the increased adoption of ExtraHop's Cybersecurity product, Reveal(X) 360.
Seattle's ExtraHop expects $100M ARR in 2020, IPO the following year
Hello and welcome back to our regular morning look at private companies, public markets and the gray space in between. Today we're continuing our series on companies that have reached the $100 million annual recurring revenue (ARR) threshold, or are about to.

One of the key contributions of the Data Science team at ExtraHop was the development of a SaaS NDR (Network Detection and Response) solution that helped secure the networks of our customers around the world. This product was instrumental in helping ExtraHop achieve the coveted $100 million ARR "unicorn" revenue mark in 2020, and was a key factor in the company's acquisition a year later. The SaaS NDR solution used real-time stream processing sensors to transform unstructured network packets into structured wire data at line rate.
In addition to my work on the ETL pipeline, I also enhanced ExtraHop's core threat hunting ability as a detector writer. I applied unsupervised learning algorithms to Big Data scale traffic flows in the cloud, and implemented real-time detectors that acted as early warning signals of potential bad actors on corporate networks across our customer base.
Bain Capital and Crosspoint Capital Partners Buy ExtraHop Networks
Two private-equity firms are buying cybersecurity company ExtraHop Networks Inc. for $900 million, as a series of recent high-profile ransomware attacks have put cybersecurity risk back in the spotlight. Bain Capital Private Equity and Crosspoint Capital Partners have agreed to acquire ExtraHop, which provides network detection and response services, including combating ransomware attacks, according to ExtraHop Chief Executive Arif Kareem.

During my time at ExtraHop, I also participated in recruitment efforts and interviewed teammates, both before and during the COVID pandemic. I assisted with mentoring and on-boarding new team members, and helped to build a strong and effective team. In July 2021, ExtraHop Networks was acquired (see ExtraHop Networks Acquisition) by Bain Capital and Crosspoint Capital Partners for $900 million. My time at the company was a valuable and rewarding experience.
